LOS ANGELES ROCKS showcases emerging and established filmmaking talent from Los Angeles and around the world. It aims to create a platform for original voices from all walks of life. We are looking for passionate films that challenge the corporatization of film culture and celebrate diversity and equality. If your film embodies our ideals and aspirations, we want to help it get the recognition it deserves.

Festival Director's Message

WHEN I first came to Los Angeles to study at USC, I went to hundreds of film screenings. The city’s festivals, its obsession with the movies and everyone-has-a-script vibe impressed me deeply. It was fun to spot USC campus in such iconic films as The Graduate & Zabriskie Point. The university is also home to archival treasures that testify to the city’s rich cinematic heritage – one of the richest in the world. While there is lots to love about Los Angeles, let’s face it – Hollywood is in trouble. The studios are intent on producing endless movie sequels that lack any originality and intelligent scripts are not made for fear that sensitive subject matter will not find an audience. Issues relating to race, sexuality and gender are often treated superficially and given artificial happy endings. I want the film industry to embrace its artistic core and to be a more equal and diverse place. This drive is at the heart of Los Angeles Rocks.

In a sense all film is entering into someone else’s dreams. Maybe we can even share the same dreams, exchange the same experiences.
