"Finally Nearly Getting There" directed by James Card
A mumblecore-cum-road trip movie-cum-rom com - innovative indie cinema at its best! Two couples plan a carshare to get to a wedding, but when two of the four suddenly can’t attend, the ‘plus ones’ end up on the long journey together. Strangers to each other, thrust into sudden intimacy, Dan and Alice skip the small talk and go straight to fighting about directions. But as motorway turns to country lanes, the tension between driver and passenger thaws. Sharing stories, jokes and a picnic by a waterfall, each begins to feel listened to, perhaps even liked, for the first time in a long time. An enforced overnight stop pushes them even closer and, as boundaries are crossed, the long drive seems too short for all that they want to say to each other. Decisions must be made, about the journey and their lives: keep going as they are, or make a change. |
