Arthouse Hallowe’en

“Hell is empty and all the devils are here.”

With the first inaugural London Rocks Film Festival coinciding with Halloween, we’ve programmed a series of short films that take us to the darker side of life, where psychedelic mushroom trips turn to nightmares and the past comes back to haunt us, in terrifying and sometimes hilarious ways. A cartoon comedy treat lies at the end for the true creatures of the night.

Experiments in Cinema

These genre-defying films utilise highly creative ways to produce moving images. From bricoleur techniques, innovative digital lighting technologies and experimental narratives, we invite you to enjoy a range of works by directors stepping outside of the traditional processes.

Identity and Inner Life

How do we construct identity in a world constantly trying to define, and redefine, who we are? These films look at issues such a racial misrepresentation, mental health, ageing, illness and personal issues that befall us in our day-to-day lives. We are proud to present these serious, honest and courageous works of cinema.
Landscapes and Psychogeography

“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” This series of films starts by exploring the trappings of our emotional world against the physical environment. It turns to our desire to seek out new journeys, inward and outward. Spaces can be transversed, forgotten, remembered, becoming both alien and surreal. These filmmakers have found their sacred landscapes and lent us their eyes so that we can see them.
"Subcultures and Networks"

The charm, magic and very identity of London lie in its myriads of cultures and communities. We are always looking for ways to give our cities meaning and create noise in the process; music in the street, subversive joy, energy channelled into objects and places. But gentrification and urban development threaten these pleasures by dehumanising our habitat. These films explore a cross section of perspectives, with a detour via a sister metropolis.
"Technology and Digital Life"

Digital culture plays a dominant role in our everyday lives; from the way we meet people and build relationships, go about our daily routines and document our worlds. This series of short films by an array of international filmmakers looks at our responses – from alienation, ennui and resistance – to technology.

"London Love Letters"

In a city that constantly evades definition, we explore how a group of filmmakers use London as the backdrop to portray their own experiences within the capital. These films are love letters that document a falling in, and sometimes out, of love with the city and our lives within them.
