Jonny Stearn wrote, directed and produced Hackney Studio, a forty-minute film based on his experiences as a body piercer. The film won the Best Director Award at Brighton Rocks Film Festival 2019, Best Mid-Length Film at Derby Film Festival 2019 and was screened at other UK festivals including Byline Arts Festival. Derby Film Festival described him and his crew as “the ones to watch…”
Jonny has produced and directed short films including fiction, documentary, music videos, animation and a variety of promos that have been screened at festivals including Raindance Film Festival, Screentest Film Festival and Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts. One of his feature scripts Spiked (a longer version of Hackney Studio) was also recognized by Screencraft competition in LA. Jonny has a Masters Degree in Film and a BA (Hons) in Film Studies where he was awarded the course director’s prize on graduation. He has worked on a series on smaller indie projects as well as blockbuster films in a variety of roles – so has a deep understanding of pretty much everything from pre- all the way through to post-production.
Jonny has had the film bug since being a little kid and continues to pursue his film ambitions to this day. An 80’s kid – mostly 90’s roots – he has a passion for: film, TV, directing, producing, art, writing, cinematography, skateboarding, hiphop, techno, punk, graffiti, music festivals & club culture. He has dabbled in: special makeup FX/prosthetics, circus performance, club promoting, art exhibitions and 35mm cinema projection.
